Jenifer Darbellay is an artist and designer living in Vancouver with her family. She has an BFA in Textiles from ACAD and an MFA in Theatre Design from UBC. Over her 30+ years designing costumes for theatre productions across Canada she received 3 Betty Mitchell Awards and a Merritt Award for Outstanding Costume Design. Golya Mirderikvand is a contemporary painter, based in Vancouver, BC.
Through her practice, she has explored oil and acrylic painting for a number of years and focuses on creating opportunities for the community to engage with and benefit from art. She has had exhibitions in various venues in Metro Vancouver and is an exhibiting member at the Federation of Canadian Artists.

A deep focus in both her external and internal space becomes the subject matter of her paintings and what attracts the right quality of her attention. Her recent work draws inspiration from nature. The body of work on exhibit is a collection of her semi-abstracted landscape paintings.

She holds a Masters degree in Art Conservation from Queen’s University, with a specialization in the conservation and restoration of paintings. Golya lives and works in Vancouver.

This exhibit depicts a range of moods and ‘weathers’ of healthy aging. It displays select finalists of the Healthy Aging Visual Art Prize sponsored by UBC’s Edwin S H Leong Centre for Healthy Aging and the Djavada Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, and chaired by Dr. Julia Henderson.
The goal was to bring together researchers, trainees, artists, older adults, and members of the public through a visual art contest and exhibition that features anti-ageist representations. We invited an inclusive and diverse range of entries which represent “Healthy Human Aging.”
Our concept of “healthy aging” is built upon the WHO’s definition as: the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables well-being in older age. Functional ability means maintaining the capability to be and do what individuals value. Healthy aging sail calm seas or weather storms; importantly, there is no “typical” healthy older person, and this definition does not require an individual to be free of diseases or conditions. Our contest received over 50 submissions which were reviewed by a jury of experts, and the work of select finalists is displayed in this exhibition.

An artist night will be held at Jericho Arts Centre on Friday, January 24^th, beginning at 6:30pm.

Martine Gourbault has enjoyed a successful career in magazine design, children’s book’s illustration and fine art. She is a Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her paintings have been exhibited in various venues in London UK, Seattle and Vancouver.

Superdoodles are a series of large drawings entitled “Folie Douce” which were developed over a period of about four years. They are instinctual in nature, coming together organically, inspired by small sketches which I then enlarged and reconfigured to my liking.

Art dolls. This work came out of a desire to move into 3D art . They were inspired by my interest in fashion, sewing, and love of creating quirky characters .
